Sludge Sacks™ are ideal for many sand, mineral slurry and organic sludge solids-liquids separation applications. Compared to conventional solids-liquids separation equipment based processes, Sludge Sacks are simple, easy to install, often far more economic, and operationally very flexible.
Sludge Sacks are manufactured from permeable high strength woven polypropylene or polyester geotextile fabrics that, meeting exacting standards, are sewn into sacks/tubes. The fabric has 40 mesh (US) mesh weave openings and the resultant Sacks are are surprisingly rugged.
Sands or flocculated slurries/sludges are pumped into the Sacks which retain the solids inside while allowing water to drain out under hydrostatic pressure and by natural drainage. The contained solids continue to dewater over time and consolidate to even higher % solids levels. Sludge Sacks can be fed sand/slurry/sludge at 400 gpm and even higher.
Zeroday sizes the Sludge Sacks for the specific application volumes, site lay down area size and configuration, and operational and project requirements. While standard Sack sizes range from 30 to 60 foot circumference x 100 feet long; these can be manufactured in many different lengths to meet project and site requirements. Multiple Sacks are often used in a on going treatment operation or to complete a dewatering project and these can even be stacked if the site layout area is limited or to minimize project footprint.
Dewatering sands, slurries and sludges with Sludge Sacks is intuitively and practically simple:
-
Unroll and lay down the Sludge Sack on ground that has a slope of no more than 1%. The drainage can be to an adjacent pond or more often a sump is dug/installed at the down slope end which collects water drainage which is pumped away.
-
For slurries and sludges requiring flocculation, polymer is injected into the solids feed injection line to ensure good water release from the solids to enhance water drainage from the sack/tube. Zeroday identifies and supplies optimized flocculant treatment programs for these applications.
-
The flocculated slurry/sludge is pumped into the Sludge Sack through top of the sack injection ports. Water drainage from the Sack is immediate which is channeled to the collection point.
-
Hydrostatic pressure and natural water release causes continued significant solids consolidation to higher % solids. Allowing natural drainage over time results in further % solids increases.
-
Disposal is simple: cut the Sack open and load out the solids out for disposal.
For smaller dewatering tasks, Zeroday supplies Dump Sacks™ that fit into 20 and 30 cubic yard roll off/dump boxes. Dump Sacks installed in a roll off container are easily filled; when the water is drained, the dumpster is trucked to the disposal site and the Dump Sack is dumped out of the box. The dumpster is returned to the site and a new Dump Sack installed for refilling. Convenient, highly functional and effective, Dump Sacks are often an ideal fit for many operations and projects.
When lagoon and tank odors are a problem, Sludge and Dump Sacks can dramatically reduce odors from dewatered solids because:
-
Containment minimizes exposed sludge surface area that result in odoriferous emanations.
-
Dead air space in the fabric pore spaces minimizing air interchange, decreasing odors.
-
Odoriferous and odor causing water is drained away from the solids. This is of particularly great benefit for dairy, hog farm and various municipal and industrial sludges. This water can be treated in pond using biological formulations (see Z BugZ™ and Z Zymes™).
